Welcome back to Something for Nothing: A RUSH Fancast! This week we begin our 3-part discussion of 2002's "Vapor Trails." This album sees Neil coming to terms with the deaths of both his 19-year-old daughter and his common-law wife within a 10-month period, with songs inspired by the 55,000-mile motorcycle trip he took following the tragedies. Geddy and Alex rise to the challenge presented by Neil's heartbreaking and insightful lyrics, and the result is a masterpiece.

Regarding the line "culture is the curse of the thinking class" - you have to unpack what it is about American culture that makes it a curse. There's a lot that does(!) but for this line it's about the anti-intellectualism in American culture. Being deemed smart or intelligent is considered a "bad" thing: geek, nerd, egg head, etc. Being a "thinker" is frowned upon because of social pressure, if standing out and oftentimes is threatening to (insecure?) people.
