In this episode of Something For Nothing: A RUSH Fancast, we discuss the merits of 1987's synth-heavy Hold Your Fire. Topics include the Beaufort Scale, what happened to us the summer before the album came out, and what does "hold your fire" mean anyway? Oh, and we discuss the songs, too

You guys should really give Max Webster a listen. Lots of great music there, including "battlescar" featuring a little band called RUSH. Man, Beyond the Moon is so good, I'm surprised you have never listened to them.

@bobbyshaw I love that line too from Prime Mover. The lyrics seem like they are in the same impressionistic vein as Force 10 and red lenses but the impressions are in larger sets of lyrics rather than an an impression per line or 2 impressions per line (like Force 10). It's disheartening to hear Neil wrote Open Secrets as someone else's pov when he wrote them in first person. If he was in a writing class he would have been shredded for doing this. I suppose his only critic for his lyrics was Geddy who would sing them. Kind of wonder - - what made Geddy be okay with this tomfoolery lyrics? Loved learning about the Beaufort Scale for Force 10. Regarding Aimee Mann, she actually sang a little (more like scat singing) with Alex's guitar at the tail end of Tai Shan. If you can stomach listening to the song, turn up the volume when the song fades out.

Keep up the great work and I can’t wait for the episode on Test For Echo, definitely RUSH’s most maligned album, but actually my favorite RUSH album!

Love what you guys are doing! Hold Your Fire is a hugely underrated album. Prime Mover is my favorite song on the album. There is a nod to Power Windows in that song, or what I perceive to be one. “I set the clouds in motion Turn up light and sound Activate the window And watch the world go round”
